Seems I have seen a headboard and footboard with real short rails that are a baby crib, then longer rails for a single or full size bed. Make sense? Any idea where I can see examples of such? Plans for such?
Thanks,
Alan – planesaw

A long time ago a buddy of mine made a similar, in concept, crib/bed/chest of drawers for a couple having a baby.
They gave him the crib and bed mattresses that were the same width. He made a platform the length of the longer mattress. On that platform he sat the chest of drawers that made up the difference of the shorter mattress. The other end had a solid headboard with the sides between. One side with fixed full height spindles and the access side, folding down (rather than dropping) with half height spindles. The chest provided very convenient within reach storage for any items needed for the baby.
When the crib crab / rugrat was ready for a regular bed, the sides and chest of drawers were removed. The chest sat on the floor and the full length mattress placed on the platform with the headboard. Oh! I just remembered the platform had some drawers built into it as well.
I have negatives and prints of it. If you send a couple of hundred dollars, I'll buy a scanner and send them to you.;-)
The children's store Bellini sells this. You could look online. Not sure if this is what you mean.
Planesaw,
Try going on line to sites that sell baby furniture.
