My Disston backsaw has a slight wave in the blade going both directions. The high points of the waves are near the middle of the blade about two inches apart. No kinks or bends. I can hold the blade straight with slight pressure with my fingers.
Can it be straightened without damaging it? Other than the wave the saw is in great shape for its age. Nice patina, no pitting or staining, etc. I haven’t used it so I don’t know yet how it will affect my work. Any advice would be appreciated.
PS- Just got my brand new Two Cherries chisels, set of six. Out of the box they take hair off the back of my hand. The blade tips are protected during shipping by a plastic tip. Mirror polish. They do have a clear coat on them, kinda of messy in spots but cleaned up with acetone and look even nicer. Can’t wait to use them. Less than $100 bucks thanks to this forum. 🙂

Hi Jase,
Impossible to diagnose the saw problem without seeing it. I spent time as a 16 year old in a saw doctors as I grew up in a timber town. My suggestion would be to roll up at your local saw doctors with the saw and a six pack for payment and ask if they could have a quick look. Sounds as though it's a quick & easy fix.
Cheers, eddie.
ps: would it be possible to let us know where the two cherries chisels came from at that price?

Eddie
Located Two Cherries chisels from a link in this forum for http://www.mikestools.com. The price I quoted, just like when you tell your SO, does not include tax or shipping.
Also http://www.right-tools.com. I got mine at the first site. If I had thought about it a little longer I would have got them at the latter and saved myself the sales tax. mikestools.com is in CA, right-tools.com is in MA. The difference in price was less than $0.50. Set includes 6,10,12,16,20, and 26mm. I am affiliated with neither seller.Jase--Is there a better way?
Thanks Jase,
eddie
The saw can be straightened by tapping the top of the steel back with a light hammer.
Try a couple of sharp taps at the middle of the saw first.
