Hi!
I’m making my own crown molding for my mantle. I would like to know how to cut the rear of the crown molding at 38/52 degrees an a table saw.

I highly recommend that you get a copy of Crown Molding & Trim at http://www.compoundmiter.com or your local woodworking store. It has solutions for problems, like catherdral ceiling transitions, that bugged me for years. The softcover book is an excellent value.
Set the bevel to 7 degrees and cut the angles on the back before you cut the profiles on the front. Run the piece thru the saw on edge for the angle greater than 45 degrees, and then on the wide side for the complimentary angle. This is kind of a risky cut so take appropriate cautions--feather boards and pushsticks etc...
Good luck
