Hello all,
I picked up 300+ board feet of mahogany swietenia during the last set of major hurricanes which hit South Florida. I have been looking for and have not found anything more than old pictures of rooms having these beds. None of the pictures show the detail of either the headboard or posts. Does anyone have good close up pictures of the old style headboards and carved turned posts. Some appear to be quite elaborate. Since I have the cuban mahogany, I would like to design and build a four poster bed with the appropriate style head and foot board to be close to the style of the old beds. Can anyone help be by references to books with old pictures or know where I can go to take pictures to complete a true to the 1700’s design……

Don't let the Govt. know you have Cuban Mahogany, that's almost as criminal as Cuban Cigars. ;-)

Not true. Cuban Mahogany, or Mahogany Swietenia, is found natively in South Florida, the Bahamas, and Cuba. It is AMERICAN cuban mahogany.Don

Just sort of funnin' ya but I'd brush up on my Spanish and head to Miami or wherever and ask around by the old men with cut up fingers and sitting drinking coffee and smokin' them big fat cigars.
Seriously, I looked on the net and did not find anything.. Ask in the Cuban community around you if there is one. Hell, most folks like to talk!

My wife's grandmother had one like it, but the relatives took off with it after the funeral.
