Hello All,
I am making a cubby hole cabinet that is 55″ long by 36″ high. The plywood panels are 11/16″ thick. The problem I am having is creating equal size openings. Is there a formula or technique to help with equal size spacing? I want to use two rows of horizontal shelving with 4 rows of verticles for a total of 5 openings.
For some reason when I do the layout after doing the math, the spacing is always off. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Take the total length/width of the area. Add up the thickness of the number of dividers needed. Subtract that thickness from the total then divide the remainder by the number of spaces. When laying out, be accurate. You can set some dividers, the tool, to the space size, mark the space, place a piece of the partition, mark the next space, etc. It may help to stack up the number of dividers you will use and measure the stack rather than go by the theoretical sum of individual pieces. If you figure the plywood is 11/16" but it's actually 0.692" the variation will accumulate per each space.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thank you hammer1. I think my problem is not converting to decimal for a more accurate number. I am off to my shop to test it out.
