I have been looking for a molder to make curved moldings mostly for arched windows. I am primarily a wooturner working alone in a small shop with 2 lathes setup with Vega dulicators, one 4ft the other 8ft. In an attempt to expand my market I thought about buying a production lathe like a Hapho but I don’t believe I can generate enough business to pay for it. I do turn small molding rings on the faceplate from time to time and get requests for larger rings 3ft, 4ft, and 5ft diameter. The only thing I have been able to find is the Williams & Hussey. I could use a little feedback.

Off the top of my head one of the manufacturers that comes to mind is Mikron.
I'm in the market for a molder too so I"m doing some research too as soon
as I recall the other names I post them too.

Thanks for the info on the Mikron molder. That's what I was looking for. I sent for some information and prices. You indicated you were also looking for a similar machine. If I find anything interesting on my quest for a curved molding molder, I'll let you know.
Thanks again - Tom

Someone else suggested it also but the moulder that we have in our shop is a Mikkron, model #645 Multi Moulder, Renfrew Ontario,Canada, 1-800-496-4589
We use it for all curved casing and even curved crown mouldings on some occasions, great machine, has some nuances that practice and a little trial and error will help get you through. Better have a good dust collector though because it hogs off quite a bit of wood on some of the mouldings.

Stegher makes an excellent but spendy horizontal moulder with feed for doing work just like the Mikron. Don't know how the prices compare, but I do know some folks who used to use a Stegher and thought it was great. You might give it a look see. wb
