I am attempting to build a blanket box which has a courved lid with a rail and panel type constructure. The end rails are 70mm wide and 20mm thick. They are curved and require a 6mm wide and 12 mm deep slot cut in the 20mm edge to fit the panel.
Could you please advise the best method to cut the slot in the curved end rails.

Hi MPM,
There are a few methods for cutting the groove on the end rails of a curved frame-and-panel door, but the one I'd recommend requires a router table and a shopmade curved fence that matches the curve of your workpiece. Your fence can be made from plywood/mdf, or you can use the cutoff left over when you cut the curved rail workpiece.
Attach the fence to the router table set back from the bit at a distance that is equal to the distance you want the groove to be from the edge. Then slide the workpiece along the fence.
This process is explained with photos in an article by Stephen Hammer called Small Stand is a Lesson in Curves. Give it a read. The photos on page 76 of the PDF walk you through the process.
