Hello All….I am making some cutting boards that are going to be 11 1/4 inches wide and can be as long as 23 inches. Is there a formula for a correct length x width, or is it just what is pleasing to the eye…..Thanks in advance for any feedback.

My most used cutting board is an island 33.5 x 46, so that isn't much help. Next most used is 9 x 15, but we have a couple as small as 6 x 6 inches.
The "Golden Section" is an aesthetically pleasing ratio that has many uses dating back to ancient history - length is 1.628 times the shorter side (roughly the ratio of a credit card). That would make your 11+ inch wide board about 18 inches long. Based on my 9 x 15 inch cutting board that is occasionally a little short, but rarely too long, that would be a good size.

dfk, I make cutting boards for myself and friends from maple ,but I make them 1-7/8" thick by laminating several boards
The reason for the thickness, is so that after chopping/slicing/dicing, it's a simple matter for the 'Chef' (Me) to transfer the cuttings to a shallower dish/bowl/tray with a deft swipe of the knife/cleaver/
I even make some with both one flat and one concave side for use with round OR square sided dishes
Those black square plastic trays from frozen chicken wings are great for tis purpose (Also I love Buffalo chicken wings)
