My next issue, now that my “sawmill” is up and running, is the pattern of cuts.
My experience is all in using lumber, not making it from logs.
The limits of my operation are these: 6′-1′ length, and 10-3/4″ under the bandsaw.
So a log larger than 11″ needs to be cut down to under 11″ to fit.
I understand, from my reading, that I don’t want the center portion of any log, and depending on the species, the part immediately under the bark.
So, I have two questions: given a 10″ log, what pattern would you recommend for cutting?
Given a 24″ log that needs to be cut down to fit, (I have some waiting for me out at Mom’s) how would you cut it down to fit?

For the 24" log, get a rip chain for your chainsaw and split the log.
I would say SPLIT the logs first THEN cut it!
