I have a can of the clear Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac and want to cut it, but I live in California and DNA has been banned. What else can I use?

The Lumberjocks forum has had several discussions on this subject. Go there (lumberjocks.com) and search for "California DNA" or similar words and you will find lots of information. You can probably do a similar google search and find some answers.
Thank you! I tried the google search to now avail. I’ll try here.
Pure grain alcohol. I think the highest proof is 190, 194, or something like that. That seems to be more preferred than DNA. But it may also be illegal in California
I use 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). It's available on Amazon and cheap.
Whatever alcohol you use, use the purest you can find. The part that is not alcohol tends to soften the shellac because it doesn't evaporate as thoroughly.
I've never tried ethanol as suggested by John but I bet it works just as well as IPA--they both have quite similar chemical properties.
However, because ethanol is nearly pure grain alcohol, make sure you keep in safely out of the reach of young adults and teens. They don't realize just how potent it is and they can quickly become dangerously intoxicated.
Grain Alcohol works great.
I ordered some DNA on Amazon (the green label stuff) and it shipped and arrived.... I live in SoCal. But, it was stupid expensive.
I have contemplated iso alcohol in the big 5 gallon bucket listed on one of the threads above.
Find a liquor dispenser that sells Everclear 190 alcohol. 5% water.
Can't buy Everclear in California either.
