Cutting Slabs for Base of Tree for Table Tops
Just got a stump(Base) that has a very interesting shape for small table tops. Not sure of the species but it looks like maple. This is the first time I’ve done this so if I could get some help I would appreciate it –
Should I keep the stump whole until I am ready to work with it or should i cut the slabs now? I have Anchorseal, if I should slab it now, should I go through the stickering and let it air dry 1″ per year? Should the cut faces of the slabs be coated and then stickered?
Thanks again

Cut it in slabs and seal the ends then set it to dry protected from the rain but with good air circulation.
Just as Gulfstar says. Cut it thicker than you think you'll need and at a bias to the grain if possible. In my experience sometimes they pac-man and sometimes they don't.
