Am planning to build outdoor furniture wuing cypress lumber- is there any advantaage in using stainless steel screws or will the new coated screws work equally as well?

Use the stainless screws. Even the new coated ones will rust eventually.
Ditto. Why compromise?
Best to use silicon bronze or grade 316 stainless screws(they will not rust) and 304 screws may over time near salt water or tannic acid in wood. If not plugging the bronze will weather nicely while the ss while stay shiny and visible.

I was going to suggest the bronze but stormin beat me to it. If the Cypress is left age naturally the bronze screws will age along with the wood and provide a complimentary look._________________________________
