   I would say "NO".  The shaft doesn't protrude enough to hold dado blades nor is the guard wide enough.  Accident waiting to happen.

   That's what I use now, except it's built as 486tad describes, to fit into the previous slot for repeat spacing. Also, mine doesn't look nearly as nice. :)

   Hmm... spiral bits... Do they cut cleaner, faster, stay sharp longer?--------------------------------------------------------

   I don't think they stay sharper longer, but you can plunge them like a drill bit and the down cut bits will leave your edges clean.

   Ted use a router and a jig that will fit into the previous dado you cut.  I did all the closet shelving in my house that way.  The jig width gives you the spaceing you want.  Make the cleat or heal to fit into the dado you cut.  If you have different spacing make two or three jigs.  The back wall of our closet is all cubes.  I had to cut 48 dado's for that wall alone.  I can't imagine using a circular saw and some kind of fence will give you the accuary that a jig would.  Hope this helps.

   Our local version of craigslists add this for sale this morning. You might want to try finding similar if you can put it to work often. Very little info came with the add but it cuts 2 1/4" wide by 2 " deep.  It looks like a Porter-Cable but nothings mentionned in the add.

   That is a Skilsaw (should be 8 1/4 " )with Pairis dado attachment .Great for gang cutting birdsmouths in rafters but not for fine woodworking.As for danger it ranks with the 16 in makita sidewinder for excitment
