Have an old 8 1/4″ Makita 2708, love it, still chugging along like me, but, having problem finding Dado Set. Finally located set specified in mfrs original instruction manual but it does not seem compatible with saw. Claims to be able to make up to 1/2″ Dado, but with inner flange in place can barely stack 3/8″ and still have recommended outer flange lock in place. The only way I can theoretically stack 1/2″ is by omitting the inner flange. Any feedback/suggestions of compatible set that can make 1/2″ Dado. Only lead so far is Avenger 6″ Dado Set. Thanks y’all.

Can you leave off the outer flange and just run the nut up against the outer dado blade? This is commonly done and unless there is something unique about your saw, I don't know what "the outer flange lock" is, perfectly safe as long as you can get the nut fully threaded on the arbor.

I also have a 2708. I have the Makita 6” outer blades to go with it, but am missing the inner cutters and outer flange. Can these be purchased separately? Can I use any cutters other than Makita?
Unlikely you can buy just the chippers and if you could it is probably cheaper to buy a complete set.
It is customary not to use flanges when using dado sets at the max. Just tighten the nut against the blade, make sure the arbor threads are at least flush with the nut.
Yes, keep the inside flange, and skip the outside flange -- just the nut -- if you can.
Be sure to really tighten the nut well when using a dado set, esp. without the outer flange. I've had the dado set loosen the nut when the saw is stopping and the motor slows abruptly when the starting switch re-engages .
OK. Thanks, everyone.
