Hi,
Wanda here, Have no idea why I had to register again. I couldn’t log in so I had to change my memebership name.
Anyways I have a question concerning Counterbore bits. I was wondering if anybody here has ever used a Damar (brandname) Counterbore? Works so much better than the cheap ones you see in most hardware stores. I have yet to come across a quality counterbore bit like the Damar. I checked out the General webpage and DeWalt webpages but they only sell the cheap varieties. The Damar counterbore works like a charm. Very nicely machined. Unfortunately I only have it on loan. But I would like to buy one for myself. I’m tired of dishing out money for counterbores that come apart. I recently bought a General counterbore/counterset drill bit (the one with the set screw holding the drill bit in place) Well the drill bit keeps slipping out. Had my friend check it out today using his drill and the drill bit slipped out before he could drill a hole in the pine board. He had a great chuckle over that. Pays to buy quality tools.
Hoping someone can help me locate a store that sells Damar woodworking tools.

Wanda,
I don't know where to get the counterbores your looking for but this company makes some of the finest counterbores around as well as other great drills and related items.

I use their carbide boring bits in my Blum hinge/line boring machine. They are the finest bits made, will hold an edge forever and bore perfect holes. I purchase them from Richelieu America.

HI,
Thanks guys. My sleuthing finally paid off. I was looking up prices on router bits in my LeeValley catelogue this morning. As I was flipping through the pages trying to find the section on router bits I came across the section on coutersinking/counterboring drill bits. And there it was on page 117. A carbide Dimar countersinking drill bit for $23.95 (Canadian) It truely pays to buy quality. I'm after wasting that much already on inferior countersinking bits. I got what I paid for. Well I've learned my lesson. :) And when I'm ready to buy a pair of dado blades I'm not going to skimp I'm going to buy the freud or Delta dado blades. LeeValley has so many tempting things.

If you see the value in buying top of the line counterboring bits you should set your dado sights a bit higher. Check out Systimatic or CMT before you buy Delta or Freud. I have the 8" CMT and it's great. If I had known about FS Tool at the time I would have bought theirs. I have several FS Tool blades and they are excellent. They are located in Toronto so maybe you'd get a better price to boot.
