Will, the day's not over yet and here you are!
They were shut down to switch over to the new "thing". Looks like you did fine getting re-registered.

Yeah, what a snafu. I couldn't get the re-registering thing to work cause I forgot my password; when I went to "forgot your password?" they said "email not found." I gave up after a while and started over from scratch like I've never been here before. Worked...

The same thing happened to me. I had to drop my old bobj handle and use my name . Hey its still me.... different name Bob
Aw sh-t! I already forgot my password.
Same thing here, when I tried to use my old 4 letter password it kept telling me it had to be 4-8 letters long. Then I tried using my e-mail address and was told the address that they sent me a message on last night didn't exist.
Finally had to change my screen name since my old one had already been taken today. Hope they don't plan on anymore UPGRADES soon.

I ran into the same problem... 'password not found....' I finally registered as a new user and have my 'old name' back as no one had taken it yet. ROYAL P.I.T.A. I can't find a reason for the need of an 8 to 12 letter password. Hell, even my bank doesn't want that many characters. SawdustSteve

Same war story here... Took me a while to figure out what to do. Even had to go look at my email because the system was telling me email not found. I thought I was losing more than just my hair.
Home at last...
To err is human but to really screw something up, you need a 'puter. The new system didn't recognize my email address (the same one that friends, family, customers, and spammers have been using for three years), so I just re-registered.
Yeah what a crock - same here
I'm pretty sure anyone who hadn't registered within the last couple weeks or so had to re-register. The whole thing about using the same email address as was in their database was so that all the high-priority threads and that kind of stuff would be "remembered."forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Why does "new and improved" always translate to a P.I.T.A.? I had to reregister and got the runaround for a while but it finally took my old user id and pw.
Wonder how many contributors will just give up and go away?
I got pee'd off when the system kept telling me all the stuff you guys went thru and decided not to bother ... then, damn, it is knots after all.
So I registered anew

... and I lost my signature!

Well, that was interesting. When I signed on this morning, I got a popup that said I was being sent to a secure connection. When I clicked "OK", another popup said I was being sent to an unsecure connection. Clicking that "OK" got me in the door.
Maybe this is one of those tests where they put rats in a maze to test their intelligence or perserverence - lol.
Same thing is happening to me today (Thursday). And when I finally do get to a signin page, I need to re-enter my e-mail and PW too.
I think this new system is not ready for prime time yet.Howie.........
Hmmm, this gets curiouser and curiouser. I use Yahoo and have this site as a Favorite. When I click it there, I get right in - like I'm almost a somebody - lol. If I get an email (also Yahoo) notification that someone replied to some of my blathering, I go thru the foolishness about entering and leaving secure pages.
Since I'm certain that the folks running this site have nothing better to do right now, I'm sure I'll get their explanation forthwith - lmao!! (No hurry ya'll.........I'm off to pick up a deposit check for a new cabinet job.)
Hey! Who are all these new guys, (triplenet, Howard Acheson, MarkRD)??? And will the real Hammer please stand up!
Okay I'm done now.
Cheers. Still Walker1
I re-registered with no problems.

You must be right, I have not had to do anything, however I think it has been over a month since the beloved Rootburls passing.
I'd just like to know what happened to The Cafe? Slainte.
RJFurniture
You guys should have been here for the changeover from WebX to Prospero then you'd realise just how seriously they can stuff up when they really put their minds to it.
Richard,
The Cafe is still there and open for posting. Just remember -- no current affairs or 'political hoo-haa' or the Forum Police will be down on you like a ton of bricks!
IanDG
C'mon Ian, all I said was that it'd be nice if there was other stuff there to lighten things up. Since I "own" the Hoo-Hah phrase, I know you're referring to me.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Perhaps some of us would prefer something on the Cafe menu other than the present Angel Food and hot chocolate.
In view of that the 'political hoo-haa' comment seemed unnecessary.
IanDG
Sorry you took that so personally, Ian. In view of the fact that 98%+ of the threads in the cafe are political or moral in nature, and the vast majority of those turn into vitruperative screaming matches, I don't feel bad at all referring to them as Hoo-Hah. It's not that I have anything at all against political or moral discussion. It's simply that I rarely see anything productive come out of them, and they've severely torn the community fiber of Knots several times over the past 3 years.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
vitruperative - now that's a $3 word. Had to look it up...vi-tu-per-a-tive (vi-toopr--tiv, -tyoo-, -p-ra-, vi-)adj. Using, containing, or marked by harshly abusive censure.--vi-tu'per-a-tive-ly adv. --vi-tu'per-a-tive-ness n.MarkFYI I never signed up for the Cafe because I wanted to keep Knots as an apolitical sanctuary as is my wood shop - no politics or religion are spoken in the shop :-)Visit my woodworking blog Dust Maker

From where are you taking your numbers??
Of the last 30 threads posted in the Cafe, only 9 have been on politics or even current affairs. This is a long, long way from 98%+.
Perhaps you'd like to revisit your statement and your attitude that 'political hoo-haa' is the massive problem that you make it out to be.
IanDG
I haven't been on knots forum for perhaps six months, perhaps longer than six months. I got bored with the arguing and put downs, subtle or otherwise. . .
Today, I decide to come back for a look. I re-register. The first topic I check out, lo and behold, someone is banging Forestgirl over the head for a mild and innocent personal observation.
I'm out of here and I will not be back, ever.
IanDG,
Did you have problems as a child with arguing? Maybe you never felt smart enough around the other kids?
I think, as do many others, that forestgirl has a valid point, what's your problem with just leaving it at that and posting friendly constructive comments.
Raise the bar Ian, don't push it down.
Brian
that forestgirl has a valid point,
So less than a third is 98%+?
Perhaps forestgirl would tell us what percentage she would find acceptable?
IanDG
Ian,
Sorry to let you down, but I won't take the hook that easy.
Did you have problems as a child with arguing..
I guess ya never knew my mom... Try arguin' with her!
Will,
I always knew there was trouble when my Mom said my full name, starting with Mr., after that there wasn't any discussion, just do what you're told and look at the floor, that was the best way.
Brian
vitruperative screaming matches..LOL.. Me and my old drill-sargent... I was the quiet one though..
"Me and my old drill-sargent... I was the quiet one though.." Too funny!
Have to go to work this morning, but I'll get around to answering Ian eventually.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I'll bet they hired a new IT guy who had to show his stuff. I lost my old name re-registering, but the good thing is that each time I've clicked on my bookmark, it opens right up. I'll bet Taunton needed to harvest info for marketing, so this was a way to do it.

I'm here under a different name. No friggin' periods allowed. Sheesh.
Wolfman (formerly B.O.B.)
So what good was all that pre-registering? After doing that, I had to start over with all the difficulty you all had.
This hasn't been a problem for everyone. I re-registered easily, and everything is as it was before.********************************************************
"I tend to live in the past because most of my life is there."

It took so long to reregister, I forgot who I am, who I was, what I said, what I was going to say, why I wanted to be here, what my password was, what a password is, what my email is, if I do woodworking, if I know anybody that does woodworking and why I wanted to read messages. I'm sure glad they used the simple way.
Hey All,
Even though the folks at Taunton are probably still reeling from all the problems that this change has caused, I think that they are trying to do their best to provide an enjoyable forum for all of us. Despite some of the changes with the log on I for one would like to thank the folks at Taunton (they're probably watching me right now) for giving me this nice relief to the daily grind, where I can come in and laugh and learn from all the great people that I see contributing.
Thanks to everybody for a great couple of months (hope that's not too corny)
Have fun,
Brian
On the whole, I'm giving the Taunton folks a major ATTABOY (or GIRL) for this transition. Yeah, I had to re-register and I lost my screen name to some low life skunk (lol), but those were insignificant annoyances compared to the realization that I had miscut some pieces for a new cabinet project.
Anybody know of a source for boardstretchers??
Dave,
I saw a cool article where I guy would take boards that were too short and resaw them along their length to create a long kerf joint. You could then reglue the two pieces back together (you'll lose thickness obviously) and have the length you need.
Or you could chain em to the truck and try strechin em, but I have my doubts it'll work.
Just a thought
Brian
How 'bout a steamroller? -- just have to start with thicker stock than what you need. Probably works better if the wood's wet though. <g>forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Forest girl,
You could be onto something there, Ive seen large machines that roll sheet metal to thinner gauges, who says wood can't do the same 8-)
Or you could lay it on the train tracks.
Brian
"Or you could lay it on the train tracks." Mmmmmm, molding!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Yes, I believe it's called "Paper":-)Mark
