I’ve ordered and plan to try General Finishes Arm-R-Seal and Seal-A-Cell. Are they not versions of danish oils? i.e. oil/varnish blends. I asked the tech rep and got a fussy answer. Any idea which oil is used in their recipe? Here- to- fore I’ve blended equal parts of BLO, mineral spirits and an oil based varnish with good results. In the case of General Finishes products is there any way of knowing which oil is used?

You can search for the msds and deduct the materials , I found oil modified rosin, stoddard solvents as most oil based finishes. If your homemade recipe works, use it, it’s as good as any and in the end, you are left with a coat of polymerized oil, thin or thick depending how many coats and much rosin/oil was in the mix.
I think the Arm-R-Seal is a wiping varnish. Just thinned varnish, no oil. But I may be mistaken.
I have no experience with Arm-R-Seal and I don't know what Seal-a-cell is. However, I have used the BLO-thinner-varnish mix and I can't find anything wrong with that. Almost fool proof. If you want a lighter color you can substitute tung oil (the real stuff) for BLO.
