Hello Peter,
I am building a pantry cupboard. I used Watco danish oil on the cherry drawers and loved the effect. When I used the same product on the face frame it came out much darker. It is the same wood . I am not sure how this happened except that the wood varies in color some, and the face frame wasn’t as light to start with. But the effect after the finish is quite dramatic.
Can I bleach or do something to lighten the frame to come closer to the drawers? Maybe I should just sand the front of the frame back down and just lightly cover with danish oil.
By the way I did apply following the directions. One coat, then waited a 30 min. then reapplied. Used this method for both drawers and frame. Thanks for the help. Don

Don,
You're the third apology I've had to make. I've been getting ready for a conference and have been very busy.
I'll answer you on the 23rd.
Thanks
Peter
Don,
It sounds like the face frame may have oxidised a little more prior to finishing but of course this is an assumption.
Are both the rails and stiles darker?
If you only have coat or two it shouldn't be too big a job to lighten it up by sanding. Use a medium grit such as 150 or 180. You'll notice that the paper will clog severely when you first start and you'll need to replace it often.
You obviously won't be completely removing the oil but you should be able to lighten the surface of the wood enough to get the color closer.
At this point bleaching would not be an option. You would need to wait at least a month or so for the oil to really set. The wood would need a vigorous sanding to open it up enough for bleach to have any effect.
These types of answers are hard to give you without seeing the piece.
If you have any scrap of the face frame, finish it the same as you did on the piece and then try the correction. If it works then have a go at the face frame itself.
Keep me posted.
Peter
