I am getting ready move to a new house and go from a 1 car garage shop to a 2 car one.
I am looking at maybe getting something to control the dust, but am not sure where to start.
A place in town has a good deal on a Delta 1hp DC for $159.
I am also thinking of an above head air filtration unit. I can only afford one or the other at thsi time.
I have a contractor saw, 13 in planer, router and router table and soon to get a 14in griz bandsaw
That is all the tools needing DC that I have at this time. The table saw and router table work fine with my shop vac doing the dust collection. and so far I have been using the planer outside under a covered patio, letting the chips fall where they may and when done planing, sweeping up the remains, relaxing and contemplating the next steps in the project.
I work with my power equipment and probably will continue to do so no matter what I get.
So my question is based on what I have and plan to get ( a jointer is down the line somewhere – maybe) which would I be better off getting. I am leaning towards the overhead, because it will get the finer dust.
FYI as a habit, I use a dust filter mask whenever I work with my tools as a precaution and will probably continue to do so no matter what I buy.

1 – measure the board twice
2 – cut it once
3 – measure the space where it is supposed to go
4 – get a new board and go back to step 1

The Delta will probably work fine, but alot of people are pretty happy with the Harbor Freight "2hp" DC for $159. The "2hp" claim is thought to be a bit optimistic but still has a stronger motor and likely a larger impeller than the Delta. It may not be the best in class, but to do better would run nearly twice the price. You'll also find the bags are easily upgradeable on the HF.
