DC “Floor stand suction head” feedback?
I was at Woodcraft today, and they had this DC accessory on sale for 20% off. I was surprised to find that the yellow “head” is metal, not plastic. Seems like it might be useful at the bandsaw, miter saw or router table, but I hesitate to get one more thing that has a footprint. Anyone have this? What’s your take?

I have two of them, I used them with the pneumatic drum sander while I waited for the stand which incorporates the hoods. They worked pretty well for that, I never used them for anything else. Have been going to try them on the lathe but haven't gotten arount to it. The are sturdy.
I hadn't thought about the combo belt/disc, but that's a perfect use for it. Might be worth it for that machine alone. All the dust goes flying off that one end of the belt, and the shape of the inlet is perfect.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I don't have one Jamie, but I have looked at one. Sit down in your shop with a cup of coffee and mentally place that thing at the machines you suggested. As I see the mental picture, the drill press is a possibility, but I visualize it getting in the way on the BS, router table. etc.
I prefer direct hook up to the fence opening on the router table and an over-head attachment on the band-saw and mortiser. So.. I think I would personally pass on it at any price with the reminder that one person's poison my be anothers cup of tea.

Hi, Sarge. I think it might be a "cup o' tea" for my combination sander, which hadn't even occurred to me last night.
I got your email, but haven't had a relaxed moment to write back.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Not a bad idea on your sander. I have a combo that has a 4" port for the vac, but generally just roll it out the door to the concrete when I use it anyway.
If you're confined to the shop, not a bad idea at all.

Mine has the 4" port too, but it works more for the disc sander than the belt. I can go outdoors as long as it's no earlier than July and no later than September LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I would think it would work very well with you sander, Before I replaced it with my current sander I also had one with a port for the disk but not the belt. Makes a big mess in a short time.

I've kludged something like that for the horizontal boring machine, when I was cutting several hundred mortises for door frames. Note the Irwin clamps and stacks of scrap wood. Funky but did the job, for a whole lot less $$ (not that I wouldn't like the stand though!). [Sorry about the pic size - Picasa wasn't cooperating tonight & I'm too tired to mess with it.]

For the disk sander I could see how it could really make a difference. Drill press is another place it could work, depending on how you're set up.

That's a really nice table for the horizontal borer. I have the same one, and was curious about how you attached it to the top? Any details would be appreciated!
It's just a "force-fit". Strips on both sides underneath plus the fence lock it in on 3 sides; the clamp holds it down. Here's a better picture:
