Delta 11-280 drill press spindle for chuck
Hello this is my first post, so sorry in advance if this isn’t the right place…
I just purchased this drill press and instead of having a drill chuck, there was a mortise attachment which turned out to be part of the spindle for that, which I have removed. So I guess I am looking for a different spindle that has the (Jacobs?) tapered end that will accept a drill chuck. Any ideas about where to acquire this?

Googling tapered end drill chuck doesn't work? I'm getting lots of results with various different keywords.
I'm finding your wording a little unclear. Perhaps I just don't understand what you are having issues with exactly.
Looks like the spindle shown is the one with a 1/2 hole in the larger diameter section to hold sanding drums and in this case a small shaper cutter. The drilling spindle would have a morse taper cone at the end, the opposite of what you will find on the market. http://vintagemachinery.org/files/PDF/Delta/1974-11-280.pdf
Ok thanks to you both. I have nevered dissected a drill press and so my ignorance was apparent. And so I purchased the one tapered spindle I saw on eBay, and a Jacobs 33 tapered chuck to go with it, so hopefully that’ll do it
Whoa gulfstar, I thought it was a Jacobs taper for this delta model (and maybe all deltas?)😬
