I’m re-assembling a Delta 34-444 contractor table saw and I trying to get the belt aligned to minimize wear & tear on the belt. I have it close but that required much fussing with the motor’s mounting bolts. Is there a trick to getting the moter aligned with the trunion pulley (?)?
Thanks

Alignment
There should be a small amount of adjustment as to the position of the respective pulleys on the shafts. Otherwise, it's a matter of mounting plate fiddling, as I recall.
Also, mine runs much smoother with a link belt, rather than the conventional v-belt.

The link is for Rockler, but these are available at most suppliers.
I can attest to success with the link belts, eliminates any vibration due to "memory" sometimes observed with traditional belts. I have the same table saw model. Your best bet is to hold a straight edge along the arbor pulley to gauge relative alignment to the motor. I would recommend supporting the motor mounting plate to take the tension off of the belt while adjusting the motor position. Belt tension on the motor during adjustment will pull it askew.
I could not find any adjustment on the pulleys. That is not to say there isn't one.
The virations and noise are acceptable. My concern is any excessive wear and tear to the belt, pulley or something else.
Pulley adjustment
The pulley is held in place on the shaft with a set screw (to hold the lateral position) and a short piece of key stock (to keep the pulley from spinning on the shaft). The set screw is usually on a projection, but may be inside the V on a "flush" pulley. The amount of "adjustment" depends on the length of the shaft, but might be a half inch or so on each pulley. In general, it is better to keep the pulley as close to the bearing (inside the motor or on the machine) as possible to reduce potential bearing wear.
To adjust the position, just loosen the set screw and slide the pulley along the shaft.
