I originally posted this in the Breaktime forum this is obviously more suitable over here.
I just stumbled upon a used Delta 36-812 for sale and was wondering if anyone had any experiences good or bad with this machine. I know the Unisaw has a pretty good reputation but evey now and again I see a review that makes me hesitate a bit. The saw is 3hp, single phase 230V, right tilt.
Oh, if anyone wants to clue me in to the advantage/disadvantage of right vs. left tilt I’d appreciate it. The old saw I’m on now is left tilt and does everything I need it too (except cut parallel to the fence)
Thanks,
Sean

You’d be hard pressed to get my 1965 Rockwell Unisaw away from me. A great machine, highly recommended.
Whats your old saw ? Why can't it be tuned up to cut parallel ?

the current saw is a Darra James, an old cast iron work horse, I'm not sure what happened to the manufacturer - maybe someone here knows about them. To be totally honest though, it is my father's saw and I'm finally after many years getting my own shop space -- that is why I'm in the market for my own saw.
Just visited http://www.owwm.com to see the Durra-James saw. Nice saw, never let it out of the family. I'am sure it could be tuned to cut square.Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

thanks Bruce -- in the photo index there is a photo of it, looks like the model 95, or 97 -- 12" table saw. I know the motor is not original on my father's either. With those old saws, do people upgrade the fence system? My father's saw has the original fence which I think is the real issue, the outfeed side of the fence used to have a screw clamp that must have ended up in a pile of sawdust and got thrown out, so the fence can only be secured on the infeed side and it definitely has some play in it. I have thrown a c-clamp on it at times but it becomes a pain in the *** to do that for every fence change.
