I recently purchased a delta 50/760 dust collector after reading the latest Fine Woodworking article on dust collectors. I cannot however no matter how hard I try get the 1 micron filter bag to attach to the machines body per the manuals instructions. It seems too small to wrestle into the groove provided. Either I’m the worlds greatest weakling, the bags is too small or I’m doing something wrong. Has anyone encountered this problem. Any tricks /ideas to fix the problem. If I am doing something stupid feel free to rub my nose in it. Thanks in advance

Brez-I've got this dust collector. I am at work right now finishing up but as I recall, it sits inside of the housing using a flexible band. I don't recall the top bag presenting a huge issue. The bottom bag I didn't care for however. I did away with it, had a sleeve made and I attached it to a fiber drum from McMasters. Greatest upgrade I ever did. I will try to dig up the pictures for it...
Let me look at the top setup tonight. I will help where I am able.
Thanks for the help. Just after I posted my cry for help I figured it out - wont be able to look at myself in the mirror for a while:-) . would be interested to see a picture of you upgrade. Sounds like it makes a difference
Brez, not sure how this will come across...but here goes anyhow. This little upgrade made changing my bottom collection a breeze. I bought heavy duty material for the sleeve...believe it is called cotton duck fabric. Super heavy, non breathable. I absolutely love this setup. Theres not a whole lot to explain. One simple straight sleeve with a belt loop top and bottom for the clamp to go through. Now, all I have to do is unhook the bag at the collector...the material is so rigid that when I go to hook it back up it practically climbs back onto the cylinder/housing of the collector. Piece of cake. If you are like me, you will have a helluva time with the stock setup with thos plastic bags. I don't know how guys used those dangfangled thingts. Oh yeah, I bought the fiber drum from McMasters-Carr. That took a bit to find...had to locate one that was around 16". Hopefully it helps you or somebody. take care.

Picture didn't work, can you post it again? I didn't want to mess with changing that dang bag, so I added a prestage to the system, which works great. I don't get any 'chips' to the bag, dust maybe, it'll take a long time to need changing. But I'd still like to incorporate your mod, sounds like a good one...
Did you use the rigid plastic band for the bag to attach the cotton duck fabric to the machine?
Thanks,
Jeff
Hey Jeff, sorry for the delay. Been in Atlanta for work the past 3 days. Anyhow, I am horrible with pictures online. Can you shoot me your email? I think I can just forward the original email I have them on...(I know, complicated...well, my girlfriend took the pictures, sent them to me via email...). No, I used a band clamp. NOTE-I didn't care for that black band clamp they provided. As I recall, it didn't have any spring to it. Suppose you could use it on the fixed portion of the setup. I really think you'll love this setup. Hey, if you're good with pictures maybe you could post it after I send it to you? Maybe others will like it? take care.View Image
