I’ve got a Delta 10″ contractors table saw that’s 15 years old. The blade height adjustment has become so stiff I can’t raise or lower the blade more than 1/4″. The angle adjustment works just fine. Has anyone had a similar problem? This is the second time this has happened. Last time I took the blade height adjustment handle off and tapped on that shaft lightly and presto, I was back in business. I’ve not been that fortunate this time. Can anyone offer any advice on how to trouble shoot this problem? Thanks

Bryan,
When the tilt and height adjustments become stiff its typically caused by the accumulation of grease and debris. Clean the guts of the mechanism with a degreaser (oven cleaner and water) to remove the cake. Dont use grease on the trunnion mechanism or the rack and pinnion gears. sawdust acts as a desiccant, drawing the light oils from the grease and then binding with it to form a solid cake. Use a light oil instead.
Also check the brake plugs that hold the blade in the desired position. These may be frozen and need a cleaning or replacment.
Good Luck
Dave
