Hi All,
I’m currently considering buying a Delta hybrid table saw (model 36-718, in Canada; 36-715 in the US). It looks like a nice piece of equipment but I want to get information from anyone that has had first-hand experience with one of Delta’s hybrid table saws.
Best regards,
Francois

Hi Francois, Your from Quebec city, and you aren,t buying from General. isn't there a law against that. (Just Kidding). Seriously though, when I was looking for a hybrid, I carefully looked over and tested the Delta 715. It seems fairly well built, and everything operated well, and it ran nice and smooth, but it was a short test drive so take it for what it's worth.
One thing on the specs. that bothered me was, 3000 rpm. Most Hybrids run at 3450 rpm. Lower than most true cabinet saws, and I think probably as slow as you want to run. Maybe others will have an opinion on this.
I ended my search with buying a General International 50 220 Hybrid, with the 52in. rails, and the General T fence, and I.'m very pleased with it. I think you should give this one consideration. They are a pleasure to deal with, and aren't far away if you need parts.
If you have any questions about this saw, just ask.
Cheers from the West Coast. Walker1
Hi Wlaker 1,
Thanks for the reply. Although I'm very tempted by GI table saws (50-185 and the 50-220) I was curious about the Delta especially since the current sale price on this saw is very interesting (789$ CAD). I can take General International hybrid home for approximately 1100$ CAD. The 300 dollar difference got me thinking. I'm very interested in a hybrid mostly because of the advantage it offers for controlling dust in the workshop and also because of its smaller footprint.
Thanks for the input on the Delta's rpm's. I hadn't gotten that far in my comparison. I agree with your suggestion of buying locally, especially in terms of part availability. Another important point for me to consider is that a General service/technical rep is now available in Quebec city to make house calls. I guess I have to put more thought into this.
Thanks again,
Francois
