I’m looking at a bench planner. The DeWALT DW735(X) is the FineWoodworking winner. A local store has the Delta 22-590 for $150 less than the DeWALT. The Delta is discontinued, but is it the right choice for $400?
Thanks for anythoughts!

Reply to bench planner question
I have owned a Delta 22-580 bench planner for about 15 years. It is the 2-blade model, whereas the 22-590 is the 3-blade model. I have had good service over the years and have encountered very few disappointments.
Made a mistake with the price of the Delta - It should have been $400.
The Delta 22-590 is not a three bladed version of the 22-580. It is more comparable to the Dewalt 734. At $400, you might be better off with the DW734. Aftermarket support like replacement knives seems to be more widely available with Dewalt. I have the old Delta 22-580 and it is a gem. The readout is the best of all these models. It has two speeds like the DW735, which I also have, but I hardly ever use that feature. If you have the money, the DW735 is a pretty good choice. It has a pretty strong blower and I use the optional bag attachment with a garbage can. If you're sensitive to wood dust, though, I would keep the garbage can outside or in a closet as the filter media of the bag lets a lot of fine dust through, or use a dust collector. At the $400 level, I would go with the DW734 over the 22-590, but if you live by a large city, I have seen DW735 on Craigslist for around $350, which is how I got mine. Finally, if you can find a good used 22-580, that is my best buy recommendation. I have seen them in my area on Craigslist for $200-$250.
DeWalt hands down
I've had the same DW734 for four years and put a lot of different wood through it. No snipe, ever, and I haven't had to change the blades either. Still gives me a good finish. I mostly use white oak, maple, sapele and occasionally pine.
Both brands are good, but for the same money with the support you can get (we even have a DeWalt store here) that would tip the scales for me.
