Was just about to take the plunge this past weekend and buy the newest RIDGID TP1300LS thickness planer, when I saw the DELTA 22-580 on sale through Amazon.com for the same price ($349 + $25 off & free shipping).
So which should I get, the RIDGID or the DELTA? It’s a close call for me. I’m mostly a weekend amateur carpenter/woodworker/DIY’er. Plus, I’m still mad at RIDGID over the whole table saw arbor mess!

BUY THE DELTA!!!!
I have had it for a few years now, and Love it. Has devoured everything I've thrown at it.
My Father in law bought a Rigid to plane a bunch of doug fir for paneling, after about 500 bf the dam thing actually EXPLODED! The cutterhead and motor housing just burst, sending cheap plastic gears and cutterhead flying. After they cleaned up, they discovered the only metal in the thing was the knives, the motor, and the wires.
I also bought a rigid table saw once upon a time. Every time I turned it on, it would make a horrible noise for a few seconds, then pop the breaker. After I took it back to the Orange box, an electrical engineering friend told me what I described was most likely was the result of the motor being wound the wrong way.
bottom line. rigid builds junk.
I wouldn't go so far as sayin that. I have had a Ridgid planer and 3612 table saw for 3+ years now and they both have been great.Even the hallowed Delta produces some "junk" every now and then.Michael
Well, yeah. I know that not everyone has had the same bad experiences that I have. If they did, Rigid wouldn't be in business anymore.
I look at it like this; If you hire a contractor to remodel your kitchen, and the cabinets fall off the wall, then you hire him again to replace your windows, and none of them close all the way, wouldn't you say something if you saw him giving a quote to your neighbor? :-)

LOL. Decent analogy, but there are many more positive experiences that can overcome the "lemons" that all manufacturers whip up sometimes.Michael
