Hey guys. I found someone who is selling an old Rockwell bandsaw for $200 with the riser block installed. The machine is in fair shape with a bunch of extra blades. It is a model 28-200. Good deal or bad? Thanks for the advice.

I can't keep track of the changing model numbers. Is it open stand or closed stand? What is the hp of the motor? Seems like a good price if condition is OK but the details might make a difference.
It's a closed stand and I believe 1/2hp. It appears to be all original and in good working order, but cosmetically it's fair. Thanks for the advice.
I've got an old Rockwell, had it a long time obviously ;) I don't have the riser kit and I think it's a half horse. I can resaw anything up to the 6" clearance without problems. It's a darn good bandsaw, very well made and the machining is in my opinion better than the current Delta model. Check the bearings, look for runout in the wheels, check the table for flatness, check the trunnions to be sure they are ok. You can probably plan on replacing the tires and the tension spring, so figure that into your total cost, obviously check them first, but at that age and with a lot of use they may be due for replacement if they have not been replaced already.
Buy it! Mine is vintage 70's and is just like the one you are interested in - solid machine - I did put a 3/4 hp motor and riser block on it. Older Rockwell and Delta machines are usually worth buying - not much made today that compares with the earlier machines.
Guys, I think I am going to move forward with the purchase. I figure I can use it for a time and if it's not worth it resell it and move on. I think with a little TLC it will look great and give me years of enjoyment. I just can't stomach the $500-800 for a new one. Thanks again for the feedback.
I think you will like the machine - don't forget you can get a download from Delta of the parts list and owners manual off their website. Ejoy it!
Absolutely go for it!!! I have one just like it, I have added a riser block, 1 HP motor and a few tune up items and it will equal a much more expensive saw. Get the Iturra catalog and it will be a huge help in getting it tuned up.
