My brother-in-law put a long, narrow, shallow dent in his hardwood floor when he moved his refigerator. I suggested hot iron over wet cloths placed on the dent (it is not gouged). Better ideas?

The iron is the best first choice. Try it over brown paper before using the wet clothes, too.
Thanks for the reply--I'll call them and tell them.
You can use the hot iron trick but if the floor has finish on it the steam will have a hard time penetrating into the cells.
I concur with what ted advised. The hot iron with steam may do a good deal of damage to the finish. If he has a scrap piece of the floor, he should use that as a trial. Or perhaps trying the procedure in a closet.
On raw wood, steaming a dent can darken the wood. The depression is removed but a blemish will remain.
Thanks to you and Ted. I wondered about the finish, but .... I'll ask--it sounds like the dent is almost unnoticeable; may be better to leave it alone than to really make it obvious by darkening it or ruining the finish! I'll ask if he has a scrap to test on.
