I’m looking for a fairly simple CAD program to help design my woodworking projects. I don’t really need anything as complex as a mechanical design CAD package just something so that will help with dimensioning, layout and drawing. I was wondering what others are using.
Running out of erasers!
Thanks for any replies!

Bill, here one thread that addresses this subject.

There might be some info in this link too, although I think it focuses on AutoCad specifically:

I'm too daunted by the learning curve to take the plunge yet. Silly, I know.

I've been searching around for a good freeware program for desinging cabinets, cut lists, furniture, etc. So far I haven't found anything that I liked right out of the box. I'm still on the hunt so if I find something, I'll certainly post the link to it.Steve - in Northern California
thanks for the post!

O.K. I think I found one that you might like. Go to http://www.shareware.com and search on "Wood Working". You should come up with a link to CadStd Lite. This is a small cad program, not much beyond a drawing program but fairly powerful and it is geared towards begineers.
Sorry, I tried to copy the link directly to the file but it didn't work.

Thanks Steve, I'll check it out!

Steve, looks like that program is just what I'm looking for. Seems simple and easy to use. Thanks for the lead. You mentioned your looking for a program to do cutlists and stuff. I'm using cutlist plus it's a pretty good package and it's pretty cheap $25 for the standard edition.

DeltaCad. (http://www.deltacad.com) I've used it for about five years to design furniture. It does the basic stuff I need, and doesn't have those advanced features that I don't need. Because of its simplicity, it doesn't have a huge learning curve, and it isn't expensive -- $50 or so. They'll let you download a trial copy for free.
