Design Spiral to Intuition Pumps and other tools for design.
A Design Spirals can produce Intuition Pumps and other tools to assist us in the designing process.
Here an example in Design Spiral in the Principles of Yacht Design By “Larson Eliasson “
If we were to replace the concepts in the spiral what would be some of the labels/concepts that would help your creative process in designing your next project?
An intuition pump (coined by: Daniel Dennett) is a type of thought experiment that can lead one to a specific conclusion through intuition.
E. Kant famously wrote. “Thoughts without content are empty, Intuitions without concepts are blind.”

Mimsy were the borogoves.
The Design Spiral is a Mind Tool/Intuition Pumps that naval architectures have in there bag of tricks for designing a sailboats.
There would be subsets for each judgement that could give me/you in site into how well a project was progressing or if something importation was lagging behind that might cause problems later on in the process.
Not all of the operations have to be carried out in each turn, and the tools used in each operation may vary form turn to turn. In Principe more and more segments are included and better tools become.
JUDGEMENTS
Quantity - the amount or number of something, especially that can be measured
Quality - of something can be determined by comparing a set of inherent characteristics with a set of requirements
Modus operandi - an individual's habits of working, particularly in the context of business or work
Relationship - Are they on the same page as you and your goals, things or people that are willing to help you meet your ends.
Consistency - a pattern of behaviour or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way.
----------------
We humans do this all the time but in a Free Floating Rationale* methodology that like Darwin Theory of Evolution it can be slow to change and will lead to many dead ends.
Kant's theory of judgment involves his answer to the question "How is knowledge of the pattern underlying intentional strategies of objective - true and justified - representation of empirical events possible?" When we problematize this question, the problem of the scope of our notion of consistency in empirical reasoning emerges.

Forethought can lead one to foreknowledge.
Ha ha
I would try to look at the Design Spiral before opening the shop and appearance or appearances would show up for work.
Oh I have all of my fingers still, as of today.
Isn't this just a "to do" list? I often in a project will write down a order of steps to the process...do this first, then do that. I never realized that Betty Crocker was on the same intellectual level as Emanuel Kant!
What books by or on Kant have you read?
pantalones868,
Having a little fun at my expenses are we.
The design spiral starts before the design process and will continue throughout the process on large projects, to warn you of things you may have neglected that have concussion later on.
Maybe you just need a to do list for your project and for small stuff maybe none at all.
Design spiral is a process that naval architecture use to design a sailboat that I stole and broke for my own ends.

Nick,
Accusing me of drug usage may be in violation of this forum rules, even in jest.
I would prefer you remove the post or edit it.
You only take a drug once, it will take you down for that point forward.
A) Benadryl, Gravol, alcohol, etc etc etc that affect you and you shouldn't operate machinery after taking
B) not going to delete a post advocating for safety
C) I didn't accuse you of anything please don't put words in my mouth
Nick,
Yes, I retired form woodworking over 15 years now. We used 6001 and change the cartridges frequently. Best practice would be to keep a log of your mood for 3 days after using a solvent of any kind. That is the only way you will know if the filter is not working because if it fails you will most likely not know because you are high.
If you smell a solvent it is to late. Partial use of a respirator offers no protection form the harmful effect of a solvent effect on the lungs, brain it cerebral fluids and your DNA.
Thank for your concern about my health.
But I use a full face fresh air respirator.
I deleted Nick's original comment and am ending this thread as well. It isnt productive or appropriate for this discussion.
Thanks for moderating. This forum has been very helpful for me over the years in improving my skills and getting my woodworking questions answered. However, recently it has been populated with ever increasing provocative and bizarre off-topic comments, rants and personality clashes. I hope we can get back to kind, generous information sharing that is related to woodworking.
Good on you for your comment.

Thanks, Great forum friendly, knowledgeably woodworks, helpful attitude and respect of one another.
It is about spirals, boats and woodworking…got it .

Looks like a New York 50 designed by, Nathaniel G. Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Mfg. Co. between 1912 and 1913. Could be wrong though photo is kind of fuzzy.
I didn't realize that the Psychology of Design and Naval Architecture would trigger a cognitive bias with some here.
You know there are other threads that you could go post on. You don't need to come on my thread and just trash me.
Funny how boats and sea lions are often found together.
Mj,
Thanks
I started this thread so you must be talking about someone else.
You can not sealion your own thread.
Sealioning is a critical term for a form of trolling that involves relentlessly pestering someone with questions and requests (such as for evidence or sources), typically with the goal of upsetting them and making their position or viewpoint seem weak or unreasonable. The verb form sealion (or sea lion) is also used.
Are you Lataxe's brother?
John,
Yes I am his brother and I am your brother also.
If that is what you mean then.
Good On You John Good On You!
But what does this have to do with the thread?
Design Spiral to Intuition Pumps and other tools for design.
With apologies for going "off topic"... Years ago I trained myself to ignore pop-up ads, roadside advertising, and other noise competing for my attention to the detriment of what I was actually doing (like driving a car). I find my day-to-day much better for it. I have not read a lataxe post in about 3 years, and now he has company on that very short list.
I was thinking they must be related...
Trolling is when someone posts or comments online to 'bait' people, which means deliberately provoking an argument or emotional reaction. In some cases they say things they don't even believe, just to cause drama.
I would have a different perspective on intuition, preferring Danny Kahnemann's perspective.
Intuitive action tends to come from experience and is actioned through System 1, the 'fast brain' if you like. It tends to be without thought and very fast.
Insightful action tends to be the result of System 2, deeper thinking which requires more consideration and breadth.
Woodworkers are for the most part the sort of people who tend to go through their lives working on System 1 and seldom allowing sytem 2 a look-in. Those who learn to give the slow-brain a chance are often the better for it.
All that said, I too have not a clue what the OP is about, how a design-spiral might help or where a pump might fit, though intuition suggests it might be unpleasant!
I should just like to add that in my opinion, Kahnemann was one of the most wonderful thinkers of our time. He died on March 27 this year aged 90 and a moment to recognise his contribution to the world is appropriate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Kahneman

jasobss,
Thanks, for your comments. It is hard to come up with new designs for decades without some kind tricks in your back pocket.

Adjusting the taper by 1/32" to 1/16" before finalizing with a jointer and smoother seems reasonable. However, ensure precise measurements to avoid misalignment.
thats nice post
Thanks to all here who share they knowledge freely.
"Good on you"for that.
