In August 2020 # 283 It shows a desk gallery , my question is what wood is he using. It looks like plywood but I cannot see the layers. I looks more like solid wood.

Curly maple. Please don't tell Chris Becksvoort you thought it was plywood.
I thought it was plywood because of the large pieces. Is this curly maple in plywood form or you can buy it as solid wood. If is solid wood I don't think I can get it in Canada. Please excuse my ignorance

I thought I read that was cherry, when he is talking about sanding.

No maple in Canada ?
Heh.
If you wanted me to feel like a stupid, you have.
I was referring to the width of the pieces he uses in this project, especially the side pieces which are about 20" by 45". I could not see if he has join them together, although in the finish, with the varnish, you could see a joint. I personally haven't seen a piece of maple 20 by 45 in solid wood. Anyway I am not a carpenter I just like carpentry.
Sorry I mention plywood, it look like I offended someone.
What a bunch of snobs. Thank for nothing.

No one was trying to be hurtful in any way. Really. And no one was offended.
Your question was concerning the gallery itself, not the width of the sides. But it's all solid wood, not ply. The sides are glued up of three boards.
There are tons of maples in Canada -- heck, you have the Maple Leafs. Where there are maples, there will be curly maples. I have no idea where you can purchase some, but it's up there, for sure.
Check Oliver lumber near Toronto exotic woods or century lumber in stouffville as well as many others in Canada. Good luck
