Where can I go to get instructions/plans and materials to create a leather panel in a desktop I am fabricating. The overall plan will be to use 4″ wide cherry for the frame and dividers. I’d like to have the center panel done in leather.
Thanks

Vna Dykes Restorers has a website and catalog. I have purchased leather for this purpose from them and it was great quality (I,m looking at it as I type this reply to you). You can get it plain or with gold embossing around the edge. I got mine plain becasue it was for an arts and crafts desk. Also, you couldn't trim the decorated edges. You order this material by the square inch, and its not cheap. The toal thickness is about an 1/8th inch. I mounted mine with 3M- Type 90 spray adhesive on 1/2 inch baltic birch plywood. I trimed it flush with a very sharp block plane. The leather is flush with the wood surround. There are several colors available Let me know if you have more questions.

Quick service & delivery, reasonably priced.
A friend of mine used a leather insert for a desk surface on which he used a laptop computer. The heat from the lap top caused the glue to fail in spots and the leather bubbled. I do not remember the type of adhesive he used, I am thinking a contact cement. Make sure whatever adhesive used will not react with heat if you are using yours with a laptop.
