DeWalt 12.5 planer: Do I need to stop it and release the motor lock every time I change thickness?
On top of the planer it says to release the bar-lever that holds the motor and cutting head when adjusting the thickness and (I believe) turn the machine off…. which seems (to my untrained self) to be one of those over-cautious things that manufacturers make you do. Is this something that is entirely necessary? I ended up turning the machine on and off and releasing that thing about 20x when planing the legs of my soon-to-be new workbench last night.
Thanks for any replies.

Cutter head lock
I have used that particular planer and I found no need to stop the planer between passes. Every stop and start of the motor just reduces it's life span. I also did not use the cutter head lock till the last two passes.
