Dewalt 621 Router base.. Tech Support?
Good morning…
I built a tear-dropped shaped base-plate for my DW 621 plunge as the old Elu design base makes it difficult to maintain balance when edge cutting free-hand. Needed to drill two holes to correspond to the two placed on the base for accessories (not the holes that hold the stock base-plate).
Guessing they were metric sizes as the ones that hold the stock, I called the DeWalt service center here in Atlanta to ask Tech Support what size the threads were on those two holes? After being transferred to the third person after my call was received.. I still don’t know as all three stated the size was not listed in any manual they had? So… so much for DW tech support.
Has anyone added a base-plate using the two holes and figured out what size those two are? If not.. I know they are larger than the M 4’s holding the original and visually appear to be M 6 (assuming they are indeed metric as the ones holding the stock plate).
Can anyone help.. if not, I’ll wing it! :>)

Take the base with you to the hardware store and try different metric and inch bolts until you find the one that works.

From looking at their ServiceNnet site, it looks like the screws used to hold the base and the adapter ring are both M4X0.7.

Sarge, if it's a weird size that isn't at the hardware store, one of the catalogs sells extra screws for baseplates. Can't remember if it's Woodcraft or Rockler? Only other one it could be is probably Lee Valley. I'll bet those holes are the same size as the baseplate-holder-oner screws.
Don't let us be hearin' any "When the Next Tear Drop Falls" from ya now! ;-)

I have this router and I have the screws to fit in the base plate. It's been a while since I've purchased them. I just checked my manual and I have written in there M6x1.5 which I believe to be the thread size, though I will not stake my life on it.
I think you are near Atlanta and I know that I purchased some additional screws for this baseplate at Highland Hardware a few years ago on one of the trips to visit the in-laws.
Hope this helps.

6M x 18 socket headcap.
Good morning Pat...
Thanks for your response of the M 6 x 18.. I knew you knew the answer to this one. I actually was just about to order your custom tear-drop base-plate from your web-site when my BIL gave me some clear plexi-glass and I thought I might as well give it a shot as I could think of nothing else to use it for. It came out well as I basically did a visual on your design and went to work, but nothing to the quality of the ones you make for that router and others.
I just wanted to compliment you on your site and your vast knowledge of routers in general. You have got some fine looking, well designed and what appears to be well machined items. Keep up the excellent work and I owe you one.
Do you offer screws, pins, etc. or do you only supply them with your finished projects? I assume it's OK to ask this question here as I have never in the several years I've posted here seen you try to lure someone into a sale, which is rather commendable in itself.
BTW.. that double sided router guide for the DW and PC looks pretty tempting... pretty tempting indeed! :>)

I almost made the journey (well short one for me of 35 miles) to Highland Woodworking this morning to get M 6 x 1 18 mm screws as not everybody has them. While at HD I ask an old hand that has been in tools a while there about metrics. He winked and pointed me to ACE Hardware.
ACE has a pretty good assortment of metrics for those in need of such. Not as extensive as say Reid Supply (a machinery supplement supplier) I order from over the phone, but very good over-all as they are not too many sources within blocks as ACE.
Just thought I would pass that along. That John White nailed one again as ACE never crossed my mind initially as most hardware stores are not what I used to call hardware stores with every nut, bolt, etc., etc. that you used to could buy loose in qty. 1 if you wished. I knew Highland had them.. but ACE delivered and within a 5 minute drive with no Friday traffic!

Evening all...
Whoa.... just got home and ate and checked messages after my wife told me I had a few. Thanks to all of you for the responses..
John W.. you're idea is credible and is what I planned to do if I didn't get a response. I knew they were metric and require a socket head to seat in the tapered counter-sunk holes I have drilled.
Rip.. the standard base-plate screws are M 4 x 7, but these holes are definitely larger. The M 4 threads drop in and want even touch the sides of the thread hole.
Barry.. I think you are very close with the M 6 as I dropped a M 5 knurled screw in from my BS and it was just a size or so under. Next guess would have been M6...
I was kind of hoping routerman was lurking as I know he knows that router (and others.. but especially that router inside out). And I got lucky as he was lurking. I will post directly to him as I have another question that he will be able to answer as I am in no hurry to pick these up and I hopefully can kill two birds with one stone.
Again... thanks very much to all that assisted... And FG.. no "Let another tear-drop fall" encore for me. At my age, it would be closer to George Jones and "They put a wreath upon.. ahhhh, never mind! ha.. ha...
