I am looking at the Dewalt DC618KA. Any thoughts on this model or on cordless nailerguns in general? Do they perform similarily to air nailers (which I have used and am accustomed to)?
thanks in advance

Be sure to pick one up in person they are a lot bigger than an air powered gun.

Just me and no real hate BUT I have a DeWalters drill I just 'LOVE' the batteries suck! Well, at least the ones I got with the drill!
Geeee.... New batteries cost almost as much as the drill WITH two batteries.
I trimmed houses in Florida for close to twenty five years, went from a hammer to air-nailers (miter box to miter saw) and in all that time have owned just about every nail gun out there, I can tell you flat out that if you plan on using this gun every day (like for trimming houses, you will need some pretty hefty bi-cepts,,,the dewalt is a very heavy piece of equipment compared to an air-nailer, and awkward to use in tight places, as are all "airless" guns. I have several pasolde air-less guns and they work well, but none of then are as fast as air-guns, they are great for those times you only need to nail a few things and don't want to take a compressor out or with you. But they are a lot slower then you are used to, don't expect an airless to speed anything up. Myself, I wouldn't buy the DeWalt, it is heavy, slow, and awkward (like me!) the Paslode guns are time tested and I think they were the first to introduce an air-less nail gun, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

thanks, I had not thought about the slowness. Do they perform as well as air powered in driving nails (ie sufficient power ?
I make & install cabinets & trim. We got a few of the DeWalt battery guns (14.4 & 18 volt) early this year. Although we haven't thrown out our compressors yet,(We still use it in the shop), it has been suggested. These are wonderful tools, much better than the Paslodes in my opinion, with no gas smell or cost. Although heavy, not much more than the Paslodes, they save time spent dragging out hoses & compressors. These are perfect for punch-out or small jobs, but we use them all the time now.
They are heavy and, slow. For finishing nailers that use so little air I have never seen bringing a little compressor and hose as a problem. I also have a 2 gallon tank that I charge with air for small jobs. It weighs much less than a compressor and makes no noise. There is enough air in the tank to install a interior door and trim it out. If you are dead set on a hoseless gun look at the Palsodes. They are proven to hold up. However they have a lot more maintinance than pnumatic guns.
