I have a Dewalt 12 volt cordless drill, I went to use it and the motor runs but as soon as you put any pressure on the drill to either drill a hole or drive a screw the chuck stops turning and you hear the clutch making a chattering noise, it does this whether it is set for drilling or driving screws. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so is it worth repairing since the drill is about 6 years old.

Hi I hope I dont sound like a WiseGuy but have you checked the tork setting?
(I had a drill that some how sliped from drill the tork no.1. After a while I just got use to it, and always used it on the highest tork instead.)
If thats not the problem it sounds like one of the gears are striped. you can send it in to Dewalt to be rebuilt, but I belive it may be cheaper to buy a new drill.
At H.D. they are selling a P.C. 14volt drill with two batteries and charger for $99.00. You cant beat the price, and It is a good drill.
Good luck.
sincerely.
I tried the different torque settings, didn't work. I moved the speed selector switch back & forth several times as suggested on another forum & that seems to have fixed the problem
Check the left hand thread screw inside the chuck, if it has backed out or missing this could be the problem.

I have a 12V Dewalt drill which is about the same age. Mine has, on occassion, the same problem. For some reason, apparently the gearing will get slightly misaligned and you get those odd sounds and loss of power. I take mine apart, look at it, find nothing wrong, put it back together and it works fine for a few months.
