You may want to call your Dewalt service center and have them verify the serial number as being from the new 12 1/2 version. If it is the new version then you bought it below cost which means you got one heck of a deal. I price match with Tool Crib/Amazon and my price on the new one is 379.00 plus shipping.
Sincerely;

Hey Tool guy. The planer hasnt come in yet but here is a link to it if you would like to check it out. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000CCXU6/qid=1102734928/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3_etk-tools/002-3329747-3079248?v=glance&s=hi&n=228013 DEWALT DW734 Heavy Duty 12-1/2" Thickness Planer with 3-Knife Cutter Head
I went and checked out everything from the site and it is saying its the DW734. It doesnt give the price on the initial page you have to proceed to check out. It will come up as 357.00 dollars plus another 10.00 dollars for shipping and handling. Well select free shipping which adds a few days to the arrival. And then add the code for another 25.00 dollars off. The total rings up for 332.00 dollars. I think this is a great deal! When the planer comes in I will check the numbers and see what dewalt has to say. Ill repost when it comes in next week some time.

I have the new DW735; I think the older model is the 734 however, as I think, the 735 is a 13" planer.
Sailalex Yeah you are right the 735 is the brand new one at 13" and I believe it also has the two speed setting for the cutter. The 735 is a little more stout it looks like also. I just posted this for some of the people figuring it is a decent deal for a good shop planer. I am just starting to build my shop tools up now for the first time now that i own a house. I actually have a place to start building my wood working skills. I have never seen the 735 in action but I have seen the 734 which my father in law has. It seems to do quite an excellent job on his projects.

I can tell you the DW735 is worth a look. They had trouble with the sprockets breaking when initially introduced (I went through 2 other 735 machines before they got it fixed) but I really like it. The 735 has two speeds but from my experience the faster speed leaves a beautiful finish that is difficult to tell from the slower finishing speed. There is a stop for the popular dimensions (1/4",1/2"3/4",1", and maybe another) that assures every piece is accurately done and the 735 has a blower to blow out the shavings; I think you could put a hose in a box and collect the shavings.
All in all I think it is a great planer and worth the extra $.
I agree with SAILALEX,
I have the DW735 and really like it. I use the slower speed for the final pass and it shines the pieces being planed. The chatter marks are almost invisable.I have the blower attachment that fits on a trash can and eliminates the chips on the floor unless I let the can get overfilled. You cannot just blow the chis into a box because you will end up with chips all over the shop as I did. You must have the filter that fits over the can tha has a hose attached.
