I have a Dewalt 735 planet. For some time, it has been getting more difficult to crank up/down. Today it wouldn’t budge. I took the housing off. The chain, sprockets and posts are clean. It seems to be tightest in the 2 rear posts. Any suggestions?

Astronomy aside --Arthritis- your machine may come with lubricating instructions and I would do what it says and use what they say to use. My Powermatic tablesaw became really stiff. After cleaning everything I relubricated. Powermatic specifies white lithium grease. I of course decided to use a drylube. It worked for a short while then I used the grease--- if you have no instructions I would lubricate the mechanical parts. The idea of grease / oil and wood in the same place doesn't sit well with me so if I had no information to go on I would probably still use a dry lube. If after lubrication you still have the problem then there is always the possibility that some part worked it's way too tight and is binding somewhere. There must be proper torque specifications for assembling these machines but finding that information maybe difficult to obtain. It could be that only the robot that built your planer knows.
I purchased a used 735 in the same condition. There is a chain, like a bike chain, which links the crank to four sprockets on each of the silver posts to raise and lower the planer body evenly. In my case, disassembling the unit, aligning all of the sprockets to be at the same height, and then ensuring that the chain was tensioned properly fixed the problem. Works fine after.
