DeWalt Plate Jointer & Face Frame Blade
Greetings,
I have a DeWalt DW682K plate jointer and was curious if it can use the 2″ diameter full thickness face frame blade (like the one that comes with the Porter Cable)?
The typical blade is 4″ in diameter, and the bore diameter should be the same. What I am concerned about the ability of the DeWalt jointer to make full depth plunges with the small blade. Is there a special, extra deep FF setting on the PC jointer?
If it is possible, does anyone know of a source for the blade itself, Amazon lists the Porter Cable replacement at $44.99 and Rockler has it for $39.99 (a bit salty for a 2″ blade). Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the PC 557 PJ and I like it. It uses blades with a 22mm bore, I think the DeWalt and most other PJ's use blades with a 22mm bore. The Amana Tool catalog indicates the 22mm bore fits all popular PJ brands. The PC 557 does have a FF depth setting and 6 other settings.

Thanks Jerry,
Do you recall if the FF setting on the PC plunges deeper, shallower, or equivalent to one of the standard (20, 10, 0, max) settings? What I'm trying to figure out is if a 2" cutter will have enough (but not too much) reach when using the DeWalt.
The FF setting plunges 13/16" more than the 20 setting. The 20 setting is set for a 1/2" depth of cut on my PC 557. You will need the max setting as the blade is only 2" in diameter so you need a good plunge depth. I am not sure the DeWalt will handle the 2" blade.

Jerry,
Thanks again. I will have to go home and see if the DeWalt will plunge that much more than the #20 setting. If so, then I think it's good. If not, then it won't work.
Not certain, but I think the PC has different arbor diameter than the others. IIRC, the PC is 7/8-inch, (22.225-mm), and everything else is 22-mm. Not quite sure how you would make up the difference, or if it will make a big enough difference to matter, it is only 0.009-in.
Jigs-nFixtures,
I noticed that too. I assumed it was due to rounding error, since I found 4" cutters that were claiming they fit both PC and DW jointers.
The PC plate jointer requires a thicker blade, plate thickness of .122" to .125". A DeWalt blade will not work on a PC, the blade will not clamp properly and just spin on the PC 557 arbor. The bore is 22mm for all plate jointers except the Ryobi which takes a 7/8" bore blade.

Jerry,
Thanks for the info.
Amana Tool makes a 3 1/16" dia. FF plate jointer blade that has a 3mm kerf (Tool No. LAM300T4). This might work out better for your DeWalt plate jointer.

Jerry,
I'll look at the Amana catalog. Yesterday afternoon I fiddled with the DeWalt and it looks like it will not plunge to a sufficient depth on the max setting to use the 2" blade.
I don't think it's that big of a deal for me (there are other ways to put face frames together) but it was worth a try. I bet the 3 1/16" blade would work, but it would require wider frames than a 2" blade. I'll look into it.
This board is great. Thanks to all who took the time out of their busy days to think about and answer questions, and even measure and look up something for a total stranger.
