I have a Dewalt 733 that has given me great service. It was time to adjust it recently, as I noticed it was starting to leave snipe on both the leading and trailing edges of boards. I put in new blades, and adjusted the infeed and outfeed tables.
There are some great instructions here www.woodisourart.com/planer/planer.htm on how to do the adjustment. The problem is that the table adjustment screws and their locknuts are located in corners, under their respective tables, so that they are incredibly awkward to gain access to. Further, the adjustment is quite coarse and tightening up the locknuts seems to change the screw heights! If is very frustrating and I have not been successful.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?
Thanks!
Dan

Dan,
I have the DW 733 as well, and know the snipe problem. I got snipe about two inches at the lead and trail of the board.
I've always used two box wrenches when making the table adjustments; one grips the nut, one grips the bolt. No magic, really. Loosen the lock nut, adjust the bolt and hold it while you tighten the nut. If the bolt rotates a tiny bit, no worries.
I set my tables so they are angled a bit higher (wings up) than the planer's bed. If I lay a level down my feed table to the planer's bed, there is a gap that opens up underneath the level, ending at the bed. Mine is roughly 1/32" or so at its largest point. I don't think the gap has to be very large at all. This solved much of the snipe problem.
DeWalt has a pretty good customer section, complete with videos that do a better job showing you than I could in explaining. Try http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/ServiceNet/logon.asp, and they will ask you to make a user account.

hamelech,
Had a peek at the video you suggested. They use a slightly different method of leveling than does the web pointer I found.
Following the video's instructions I found that one of the corners was a bit low. Voila, works like a charm now - thanks very much for your timely assistance!
(I still think the adjustment procedure is a bit 'imprecise' for a great tool that is so well designed and built in all other aspects. . . )
Planin' Dan!
Dan,
Glad it all worked out. Yeah, the DeWalt site is pretty good. I'm glad to know that DeWalt is supporting their products in this manner.
Cheers,
Seth
