I'm one of the 746 owners and I really like the saw. Mine checked out great in all the particulars, as well as accuracy. I personally did not have any fence problems, but I have read where some have had some set up/accuracy issues. All seemed to be resolved either with shim kits or replacing the rail. I also lucked into the slider and an outfeed table at a going out of business sale-both I like alot. May seem a bit pricey, but it is well worth considering. The blade does tilt away from the fence.

Rocky,
I've heard from some people that this saw bogs down in heavy wood -- have you had that problem? How smooth/accurate is the sliding table? Also, did you keep the stock fence, or did you upgrade to another?
Good job on finding a deal on the saw. That's always a good feeling.
Matthew,
Good to hear from you! I have not had any bogging down problems. I use task specific blades (ripping and crosscut) with a steady feed rate-no problem with 8/4 oak, maple and cherrry.
The slider has a very smooth stroke. It was a bit of a bear to set up, but I attribute alot of that to myself in not paying close enough attention to the manual-alot of trial and error. Once I got it right,
been very accurate and handy to have. I have to admit, I don't know it i would spend full retail on one since I don't make a living doing this, but I like the feature! Fence is stock-haven't had a reason to change or upgrade. I must have been one of the lucky ones when it came to the fence.

I also have the 746k and I included the long fence rails, max cutting cap. is 50". I also have the sliding table which is very slick, however the included Osborne style fence is much to short. I got lucky and picked up the delta crosscut fence kit and i use then together. The standard rip fence is fine and accurate, but would be nice if two sided but I have only needed the other "side" once in the last year. The unit runs best when set up for 220v as a lot of power is needed at 120v. The included blade cuts great and coin balancing is real easy to do. 1/2" thick material makes great zero clearance inserts and the guard works fairly well. If you need to lean the blade over, the rip fence keeps reading correctly. most don't. Dust collection is very much better than most table saws with the build in blade shield and your shop vac. From the last years heavy use, I would buy again.
thank you for the reply, just the kind of info i was looking for. steve.
Steve,
You might want to hang on with you decision about a 746. I just got an email from popwoodworking that shows a new Jet tablesaw that looks very similar to the dewalt, with similar features (sliding table) for less money. The fence apears to be different, as well as the footprint and dust collection. I thought I read the wings on the jet would be cast iron, instead of steel. Could be very interesting. Good luck.

Rocky, above when you said you were "one of the 746 owners" I thought you meant only 746 people had bought the saw and you were one...lol
I used a little DeWalt portable tablesaw on a carpentry job this week. It is what it is, but I found it surprisingly accurate, easy to use, sufficiently powerful. If this kind of quality correlates up the price-point ladder you probably would not go far wrong with a Dewalt saw. Hope this helps; good luck!

Yea, it does kinda read like that doesn't it :-). I know several people who use the portable one and are happy with it.

Rocky, do you have a web site for popwoodworking? thanks steve.
Rocky
Is this what you're looking for?
http://www.popularwoodworking.com/index.htmJase--Is there a better way?
yes! thanks.steve
I just looked on the Popular Woodworking site and couldn't find a link to the story on the new Jet table saw. Do you have a direct link?
Matthew,
The info came from an "email newsletter". Perhaps I could forward the message to you. Shoot me your address and I will try to forward it to you.

Rocky, could you please forward the e-mail to me also? [email protected]
thanks steven.
I just got the newsletter. That saw from Jet looks identical to the DeWalt, except it's white instead of yellow. Reading the blurb, it seems that the Jet is different in some important ways.
This will be very interesting to see. I have been waiting a long time to see if North American table saw manufacturers would begin developing sliding tables as part of their saw packages.
