Hi All,
I have Dewatt 12 1/2 ” Planer, the problem is it can’t not cut more than 1/32 ‘” each time. If I let it go morre than that, the stock will stay one place and eats the rollers because the rollers still running. I dont have the joiner, so after rip the stocks I tried to square the edges . I know my TS won’t give me 100% of 90 degrees cut but it looks straight and square to my eyes. Is this the problem or my planner. Can some one give me any experince. Thank you.

Vincent,
I have the same machine as you. I had the problem when I was new to the machine. Two things I found out that you must do on this planer, and I suspect, any other benchtop planer.
1) Clean the infeed and outfeed roller (unplugged) often. Clean one half of the rollers with the power off. Then plug it in and quickly turn the power on and off to rotate the rollers half way. Unplug it again and clean the rest of the rollers. This will help the rollers grip the wood better to pull it through the cutter.
2) Keep the blades ultra sharp. Whenever I notice that the board hesitates to go through the machine, I swap out those blades for freshly sharpened ones.

Thanks. What do you clean it with?. BTW, I never change blade myself, is it difficult?. vn
Piece of cake if you follow the directions in the manual. Should take less than ten minutes even if its your first time.

Vincent,
I use Formula 409 to clean the rollers with, but I'm sure any cleaner will work. You just want to get all the packed-on dust off of the rollers, it makes them slippery.
As far as changing the blades, it's very easy. The manual that comes with your unit gives very good directions on how to do it. It only will take you about 20 minutes your first time...and about 10 after that.
One other thing that you might want to do is wax the bed of the planer so that boards don't have a tendency to stick to it.

I posted this "what to clean with" question in another forum that has a couple of Delta techs as members. Assuming you have rubber (not steel) rollers, following the following:
Mild soap and water.
Do not use solvents, alcohol or WD40
Here's the exact quote:
This is all done with the rollers up high, and as mentioned, you "burp" the on/off switch to get them to rotate a bit to the other side, being sure when you're cleaning the machine is unplugged.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I had the same problem I waxed the in feed table and it allowed it to pull the wood through.
"FAMOS_RICH_IT" -- your first name wouldn't be Bill, would it? LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi All,
Thank you, you are very helpful. This will be my project for this holiday season. Thanks .

hooking up a vaccum would help with the build up also, not 100 %. but it 's significant enough to mention, i clean the machine(13" delta two speed) after every time theres repeative work.with the aforementioned 409 on the rollers, and mineral spirits LIGHTLY, with 0000 steel wool, the table plate, than i wipe, another light coat of bostons buther wax again already mentioned than wipe that after letting it sit for 5 minutes. also as basic as this will sound make sure, the cutter head is tight, or locked in place. have fun..... cheers bear

Hi,
Shame on me, I have the machine more than 2 years, never clean, only dust off, no wonder why I stsart to see this problem. Just installed DC collector few days ago. I can't find the accessory for that planner so I made the V shape from sheet metal and mount in front of the planner where the vent is. Now , I don't have dust fly all over the place but still have some left on the infeed and oufeed table. Do you have any suggesttions for hooking up DC. Thanks. vn.
vinny- i get kind of picky with my machinery, i cover my stuff after a good blow out ,than i wax it, i cover my stuff if it isnt being used with moving blankets. as far as dust collection ,i use a shop vac, with a cyclone cap, that fits over a standard 20" metal garbage can, with the garbage can i duct tape the side seam very well inside and out also the top one no more than two layers of duct tape NEATLY , so i get a very tight seal, the cyclone cap has twooutlet's to hook to your vac and also your machinery. the length of the hose directly depends on your vaccum, as far as power. i got a 20' piece ten feet to the vac, ten feet to the tool i wrap the filter of the vac. with my wifes panty hose (no i dont try them on first). the filter i use is a basic pleated filter, i have the rigid the big one i think i spent 125.00 for it. it really sucks..: ). anyhow that does it for me , i hook it up to my drill press, table saw , S.C.M.S, router table (works real well there) from over head of the router bit . any how thats the deal, have a good thanksgiving if your into that stuff(ing), me personally i'm into it...... cheers bear p.s. oh yeah for the whole set up it runs vaccum-125.00
cyclone cap 40.00
garbage can 22.00
hose 35.00
dust chutes assort,.45.00
hose clamps- 10.00
