Diamond Point Tool? from Becksvoort FWW article
Christian Becksvoort recommends a “diamond point tool” to cleanly cut the transition from square to round on the legs of his Shaker inspired hall table (FWW, July/Aug. 2012). There is a photo illustration–rectangular steel tool blank, flat on one wide face, ground to a “diamond” bevel point on the other face. I own a reasonable array of turning tools, but I don’t have this one, and I can seem to find anything like it online. Do I have to get a blank and grind it, or can anyone point me toward a source where I can purchase one of good quality? Thanks for the help.

It's just a pointy ended scraper. They used to be common in inexpensive sets of turning tools, but you don't see them very often these days. Mostly because they aren't very useful. There are just better ways to get that job done.
I think those tools are still around, but only in wider widths.
Just take a square end scraper and grind/sharpen the "V" shaped point into it if you want one.
Better yet, you will get a much better finish if you cut the pommel with a skew.
Here is a good video demonstrating the technique.

Thanks, very helpful video. I'll just get out the skew chisel and practice on a couple of poplar blanks before I turn the actual leg blanks.
