Difference of Powermatic 2000 & PM-66?
What is the difference between the new Powermatic 2000 and the Model 66 Table Saw?
Which one would you chose? Why?
Thanks,
Bill

Just about everything. I'm not being a smart a$$, they are two very different saws w/ the 2000 being made in Asia but having many new features; riving knife, larger surface, retractable casters.

Bill,
I've decided, I think, to get the PM 2000 because of the generally good reviews. My original plan for my new, and possibly last, table saw was a cheaper import so I could afford other basic tools. My 30 year old Craftsman is getting tired. But now I think that house flip I'm working on will pay off well so I can afford a "better" saw and the other stuff for my dream shop. Now I have the problem of building cabinets for the house on my old Craftsman TS instead of a new PM 2000.
Where it's made doesn't really bother me because "quality" is designed into the product. I work in a high tech machine shop and we can make junk on a $4 million CNC machine with high dollar support if quality design and quality control aren't there. I think it's worth paying more for the Powermatic name. Besides I have a 1966 20" Powermatic band saw that is lonely.
PS: Thanks for you'r hard work at Crockett. Jon and Tyler say Hi!

I've wanted a powermatic ts for years and finally got a 2000 last week. The biggest difference for me is the built-in castor system that makes the beast mobile. I attached a plywood ramp to the shipping pallet, unbolted the saw from the pallet, turned the handwheel to lower the castors and single-handedly rolled the saw onto the floor. Not sure how I would have gotten a 66 off its pallet by myself.
I have had one quality control issue so far. The metal sleeve around the locking knob on the accufence was so out of position that it could not be mounted between the guide tube and front rail. I called powermatic and they are shipping a new one out immediately, no questions asked, and they didn't even ask me to send back the defective one.
