I recently downloaded some plans from the FWW Digital Plans Library and I’m trying to print actual scale plans from the PDFs provided (not the sketchup file) to make templates. However, I could not find the instructions to print the actual scale drawings. Does anyone know how to do this other than trial and error? It seems like the plans should print correctly when “Actual size” box is checked or they should have a specified custom scale to print.

I checked one of the pdf files - garden bench - and it was letter sized so the only way to print that real size is indeed trial and error.
The skp file should allow you to generate a life sized image, though sketchup has it's own ideas about how many sheets of paper this should involve, and I'm far from an expert in that.
I find it easier to draw the parts on paper by hand - with plans it is easy to see maxima and minima of curves, angle points etc. It takes less time than messing about with a computer.
As Rob_SS indicated, the digital plans are set up to print on letter size paper. When you choose "Actual Size" in the Print dialog, there will be no scaling of the content on the pages. If you want to print full size patterns from those letter sized pages you will need to increase the scale in printing.
Many of the project plans should also be available in a "printed" format on Arch E paper (36" x 48") and they generally include full size patterns as appropriate.
Alternatively you could create the full size patterns from the SketchUp model if you want.
Thank you Rob and Dave. I'm currently reviewing my notes from the class I took on sketchup with Tim Killen. I'll figure out how to print this in sketchup. I just thought that the FWW folks who prepared these PDFs would have included the full size PDFs for printing on a plotter. Oh well, the plans are great nonetheless!
In most cases there are two sets of plans created. One for those who want to print on their home printers and another that, prior to COVID, was supplied printed on Arch E paper. Last year the Arch E versions were supposed to be available as a PDF download to allow the customer to choose and get those printed on larger printers.
