Digital readouts for table saw fence
Greetings all ye woodworkers! It has recently come to my attention that there are Co’s manufacturing digital readouts for our table saw fences. I’m interested in purchasing one to help save time and increase accuracy in my shop. I know of three Co’s that currently market them. Info can be found on their websites(www.allendesignsllc.com,digi-kit.com/digifence.htm ,www.wixey.com)If there’s any one out there that is currently using one of these I would appreciate any feedback as to your satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the brand you have. I would also like to issue an invitation for the staff at fine woodworking to do a comparison test for all of their faithful readers so we can be more enlightened. Thanks for your help!

Digikit is clearly the higher end of the three. I was talking to a saleman and I think they are going to offer a longer readout to march the Wixey. The Wixey looks interesting as it covers 60" of track so it works on the whole fence. I've heard of Shan offered by Allen Design...website deosn't give much info and got a prerecording so that's not terribly good in my book. I'd do more research on the features you like best. I don't care how many decimal points it has necessarily. Repeatability and accuracy is the critical thing. I've seem some cheap digital calipers but they lack the accuracy and repeatability of the more expensive ones. I'd say the Digikit is a safe bet as they have been around the longest and have a secure track record. plus this is their budget line. The http://www.proscale.com is their deluxe line.
BTW...when you type urls, don't run them together. Some folks aren't going to understand why the link won't open.
Brown man ; i have the prosacale by Accurate. I have only had it for six months though , So far i love it It is on a powermatic 66 with 52" accu fence . I opted for the 3 decimal places because i like the abilty to remove just a few thousands. An example of that was i had a dado set up for the under sized 3/4 plywod and it needed to be just a little looser,so rather than take the set apart and adding proper shim i just moved the fence over .005 . by the digital readout. I have the Digi-Kit on my Biesemeyer and am very impressed with it. It was easy to install, is very easy to zero when needed and allows me to do things I never really thought of, aside from making dead on cuts the first time.
I have a review of the kit at the link below with photos and details if that would be of interest.

Gentleman, thank you so much for your input. Your knowledge and opinions matter. This is the first time I've actually used one of these internet sites to communicate to other woodworkers. What a great service! Thanks Tom for sending me that review on the digifence. I'll be sure and bookmark that page. Sounds like the digifence may be the one to get so far. It was my pick from the three offered after initially checking them out on their websites. I don't like that the Wixey readout is placed on the cutting or left side of the fence. I would be afraid of dropping a board or panel on it when I went to cut. And Tom I noticed you posted at 3:07 AM. Do try and get more sleep! Look who's talking,I'm here posting at 1:30 AM (Pacific time). Anyway thanks again to all who responded and others are welcome.

What? Where you been man in a cave? First time on the forum, maybe that is a good thing because it can be a real time sucker. Anyway welcome to the new way to socialize.

Thanks Jeff! I'll try not to waste to much time socializing, besides I'd rather be in the shop building something. Although I must admit you can learn a lot from these chat sites.
Tom, I bought the digifence 4 years ago. Started to install it and had problems. stopped and never finished it. I have the digital readout on the fence still. Maybe one day I will take it on again. Did they make changes on the digifence. Its been soo long I cant remember what it was that gave me trouble. I do know that it was a pain in the a$$.

Lou,
I have no idea what this system looked like in years gone by but had no trouble installing this version on my Bies fence. Everything fit perfectly and they even supplied the drill and tap for the screws that hold the track under the fence rail.
Maybe contacting them with your problem would get a suggestion on how to remedy it. I'm sure whatever you encountered has been dealt with by others along the way.Tom Hintz

Brownman,
I've been using the Digi-Fence on my Biesemeyer 50" fence for about 6 months and I couldn't be happier with it. It was a snap to install (like someone else said, they include the bit and tap for the screws) and the accuracy is incredible. I have a digital caliper and within the range of it (6") the Digi Fence is dead on! I certainly couldn't get any closer with a tape, that's for sure.
Best of luck
Thanks for the input, can't wait to get one for my beis. Am saving up for it now.I've got a couple of items to list on e-bay in the near future to put towards the purchase. Don't you just love the accuracy!
