Diluted hide glue

What is it called in English, to use a weak solution of hide glue and water before finishing ?
For example for end grain preparation.

I think it is called size, or sizing.

Similar results may be obtained using Titebond at 1 part glue to 9 parts water. I've used it with white or yellow glue, same results.
