Dining Room Table Design and Construction: I’m to design and construct a dining room table. I have three different sets of slabbed trees in my garage that have been there for upwards of 20 years, all under plastic and in perfect condition, 2 and 3 inches thick and 36-44″wide and 72-86″long (birch, black walnut, and chinese elm). I remember years ago reading about some famous Japanese fella that made big solid arty tables but I can’t remember his name. Who knows the name–please, send it to me. And who can help me with design ideas for such a unique, one-of-a-kind modern art table that’ll knock the socks off my 15’X25′ dining room in a 1909 house? Also, I need to do 8 Art chairs, none of which need to match, but all of which need to be complementary to eachother and to the table in question.
Thanks for your thoughts/.

thankyou, hammerandhand. nakashima is the right name. maybe, i can mine some of his wisdom and get going on design for my dining table and chairs. I know i've got the wood. it's aged for 5-25 years and i can choose from black walnut, birch, chinese elm, all 2 and 3 inches thick and 36-48"X72-86" length. Some if the slabs are full of good character, but all need a master's hand that I don't have. maybe, with patience and perseverence I can come up with something worth the effort. Lots of new techniques and concepts will be required.
thanks again h

Holy mackrel...I'd kill for a piece of walnut that size. I'd love to see pictures!
They should be stunning when they're done.
